THORGUARD
Frequently Asked Questions
Thor Guard is a lightning prediction and warning system that uses advanced technology to monitor weather conditions and provide real-time alerts about potential lightning threats. It analyzes the static electricity in the atmosphere to predict the potential for lightning activity, allowing organizations to take timely action to ensure safety.
Thor Guard’s services benefit various organizations, including sports facilities, schools, parks, municipalities, military/government properties and event organizers. Any entity that holds outdoor activities can utilize Thor Guard’s systems to enhance safety and manage weather-related risks effectively.
The advantages include real-time lightning alerts, increased safety for participants in outdoor activities, minimized liability for organizations, and the ability to make informed decisions based on accurate weather data, ultimately saving lives and reducing property damage.
Thor Guard boasts a high level of accuracy in detecting and predicting lightning activity up to 100 miles away. The systems analyze multiple cloud to ground lightning, cloud to cloud lightning and even static electricity excursions that don’t result in an actual flash/bang, ensuring timely and reliable alerts.
Thor Guard’s current flagship model is the TG360. This encompasses the lightning sensor, display computer and Voice of Thor (VOT) module for horn/strobe communication via radio frequency from the base to as many remote receivers as is needed.
Thor Guard has always been able to detect lightning. It is only in the TG360 where customers can view prediction and detection data. No other system in the world can do that.
The Thor Guard lightning prediction algorithm is continuously running. The Thor Guard lightning detection calculation is instantaneous with no delay. It is the world’s fastest lightning detection frequently displaying lightning distance immediately after a flash and before thunder is heard.
Lightning detection networks suffer from delays while all their sensors triangulate their data. After precious minutes have gone by, their data is eventually compiled in central servers when finally lightning detection locations are estimated with varying levels of confidence that can lead to a wide range of uncertainty as to where lightning actually struck. Remember in order for lightning detection systems alone to work, they need lightning to strike near your location so they can tell you it is dangerous after it is already obvious that safety has been compromised. This is no way to provide a warning.
Yes, lightning detection ranges and countdown timers can be set to match whatever your state, county or local organization adheres to. Combine this with the ability to have our prediction system and you’ll have the most comprehensive lightning warning system in the world.
Thor Guard’s systems can be integrated with various existing golf cart platforms. Viewing of ThorMobile, ThorTV and ThorMap displays are available for phones and computers. This flexibility allows organizations to maintain their current infrastructure while enhancing their lightning safety protocols.
While through Thor Guard’s software, emails and text alerts can be sent/received, the ThorAlert app provides notifications whenever the user chooses based on the different alert levels for heat, lightning, wind and other emergencies.
Interested parties can visit Thorguard.com to inquire about purchasing their system. Thor Guard offers a variety of discounts to several organizations.
The lightning sensor is usually on a roof with either a good view or the best view of the sky. Also on the roof is a weather station and the optional Voice of Thor base transmitter with a horn/strobe/antenna. Two cables then run down to a computer/router/power injector pack connected to a UPS battery backup. The computer display runs Thor Server software where the system’s data is disseminated. Optional remote Voice of Thor horns/strobes/antennas can be a/c or solar powered.
Thor Guard provides comprehensive support after installation, including regular maintenance, upgrades, and customer service through local representatives. They offer training for staff to ensure they can effectively utilize the system and respond appropriately to alerts.
Starting in 1973, Thor Guard became what it is today in the 1990’s when the first complete lightning warning system was introduced to professional golf tours. After selling the most popular lightning system in the world for the first two quarter of this century, Thor Guard continues to create industry leading lightning warning systems.
